Next to saving for retirement, or paying off your home, your biggest financial challenge is probably saving for your kids' college education. Questions like how do I know how much to save, how much will a college education cost when Junior turns 18, what if you save all of this money and then they decide to tour Europe instead of going to college, can you cash in the account and take that dream vacation you and your spouse have been thinking about, or, what if they don’t even end up going to college, is that money wasted? • More job opportunities.

  Those who have a college education naturally have more job possibilities open to them. As more and more jobs require an education past high school, college may prove to be a very worthwhile investment.
  
  

• Earn more money.

  A person who has a college education earns more on average than a person who doesn't. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, on average in 2007, someone with a bachelor's degree or higher earns approximately $100,000—that's 50 percent more than the $49,739 earned annually by someone with only a high school diploma.

The reasons for not helping your child go to college are far outweighed by the great opportunities and challenges that are bestowed upon them once they do.
